About this fish
A finger-sized fish whose males turn rainbow-colored in spring. It has the unusual habit of laying its eggs inside freshwater mussels.
Catching one for real
It can be caught on a tiny hook with paste bait, but it's usually watched and released. Some bitterling species are protected, so take care.
