About this fish
A fish found only in Korea, living on gravel beds in clear, fast riffles. Bright yellow and dark blue stripes along its sides make it very pretty.
Looks and how to tell it apart
A slender fish, brown on the back, with a yellow band and a dark blue band running side by side along its flanks. Pointed snout; usually 10 to 15cm.
Where it lives
Found only in Korea. It loves gravel beds in clear, fast riffles, and struggles when water turns murky or mud builds up. It eats aquatic insects between stones.
When it bites
It gathers in riffles to spawn in spring as the water warms, and is active by day.
Catching one for real
Drift a worm on a small hook through clear riffles and one may bite now and then. It's a small, pretty native fish, so take a photo and let it go.
